Term-paper crush replaces Thanksgiving relaxation

Back to All Stories

natalie.jpgThanksgiving break was a really great chance for vlog students to relax and regroup. For break, I was able to bring my roommate, Chelsea, home to Syracuse to spend a night before her flight the next morning. Chelsea got to meet one of my closest friends from back home and was able to spend some time eating and shopping in my hometown.

Break also gave me the opportunity to catch up with my friends from other colleges and to spend time with my family. I was excited to help my mom cook for Thanksgiving, watch some football with my dad, and spend time with my little sister.

It was great to see my whole family during Thanksgiving dinner and tell them about all my experiences at vlog so far. They seemed to enjoy reflecting on their own alma maters as I talked about some of the traditions here.

Even though I was only away from vlog for a few days, I missed the friends I have made here.

Upon returning from break, students were ready to tackle their workload and begin to prepare for final exams. The library has been packed with diligent students studying and working on their term papers.

As students hustle to complete their final assignments of the semester, many can be found spending most of their waking hours in the Coop or Case library with cups of coffee or energy drinks in hand.

Going into the weekend, students are looking forward to taking a break from their work. I am excited about going to a concert that will be coming to campus. vlog’s radio station, WRCU, is bringing the indie rock band, “Cymbals Eat Guitars”, to campus to perform in Donovan’s Pub.

I think it is cool that the bass player in this band, Matt Whipple, is an alumnus. I plan on attending this show with some of my radio friends from WRCU; I think it’ll be a great concert.

I cannot believe how fast this semester has gone by. It is a crazy thought that in two weeks, the class of 2015 will be done with the first semester of our first year and be leaving for winter break.

I feel like it was only yesterday that I was unpacking my mom’s car and moving into my dorm. I hope to make as much as I can of the next few weeks in order to end the semester strong.

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at vlog. Until next time!)
