Students dodge raindrops, settle into class schedules

Back to All Stories

natalie.jpgIn central New York, preparing for the elements, every possible weather situation that is, is always the way to go. This week, students got out their umbrellas, raincoats, and rain boots and put them all to good use, braving the persistent downpour in order to get to class on time.

Besides the rain, which created a new lake or two adjacent to our own Taylor Lake, this week has brought more than precipitation.

Students are beginning to settle into their class schedule, as the add/drop period has now ended, and are now developing a semblance of what one may call a daily routine.

I am seeing fewer and fewer students sprinting to class because they have learned that, for the college student, it is always a good idea to set more than one alarm clock.

As first-years continue to discover the campus, the Class of 2015 can be found getting comfortable in places like the Coop and the library. Personally, I spend a lot of time in the Coop. I really like the atmosphere, and I can always find out what clubs are starting up from the posters hanging around the building.

College food usually gets a bad reputation most of the time. But anyone who generalizes college food as “bad” has to check out Frank Dining Hall. Every time I have gone to Frank for a meal, I have found so many options.

Just this week alone, I had an Indian meal, sushi the next day, and a completely vegetarian dinner another day. Not only is the food in Frank great, but also, the workers in Frank handle the masses of hungry college students really well. They are always very warm and accommodating to us as we rush to fill our trays.

Heading into the activities fair, sponsored by vlog’s clubs, I am worried that I will sign up for everything. When I looked into some of the clubs at vlog before I applied, I saw that there was a club for just about everything and for everyone.

I am excited and ready to get involved in some of the clubs here. Having already attended some Newman Community events, and being in the process of creating my playlist for WRCU, I look forward to taking in everything vlog has to offer me.

Here is my photo of vlog’s newest “lake” created by all the rain:

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at vlog. Until next time!)
