Getting the chance to host a prospective student

Back to All Stories

mhernandezstopp.jpgThis week was filled with excitement!

On Tuesday, the Chinese Interest Association brought the Golden Dragon Acrobats to perform at the Chapel. The event was unbelievable, the stunts were Herculean, and the show was spectacularly executed.

I was shocked at the ease with which the acrobats could contort their bodies. I think I was more afraid for their lives then they were for their own.

Wednesday was the annual Hispanic Heritage Month dinner at the ALANA Cultural Center. I was able to gorge myself on delicious food, especially the guava pastries, and celebrate my heritage all at once, and in great company.

After an amazing week, there is always an even better weekend to follow. Tomorrow night I’ll head to The Barge and catch the Poetry/Spoken Word Open Mic Night. I can’t wait to surround myself in the ebb and flow of creativity (which we have lots of here at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø) and hear my peers speak. I may even get up on stage and shout a word or two, its a great way to de-stress and let loose.

Saturday I’ll most definitely be at the football game; you all know how much Raider love I have!

Later on in that night, I may head down to Rusch’s Bar and Grill, a local pub, to hear the band Backstreet Sunday.

Sunday will be a work day, but I will be sure to show my support to the women’s soccer team as they go against Army down at Van Doren Field.

Also, I have been anxious about hosting a prospective student this Sunday. I hope I can show her all the wonderful things that ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø has to offer (if my blog posts here aren’t sufficient!).

My friend Danielle Bynoe ’14 will also be hosting a prospective student and we have already planned out what activities we would like to do, and the places we will show them.
Hopefully we’ll help them make the best decision, as it is quite an important one.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø was, without a doubt, the right place for me.

I’ll be sure to let you know how my weekend goes, and perhaps I will come out of it with a new friend, as well!

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. Until next time!)
