First week of classes really brings campus to life

Back to All Stories

natalie.jpgFirst week of classes! This week, the campus has really come alive with students strolling to, and at times, running to their classes.

This semester, I am taking Intermediate Spanish, Analysis Health Issues:
Cancer, as my first-year seminar, Topics in Organismal Biology, and The
Silk Road.

My professors are very engaging, and extremely knowledgeable about their subject matter. Needless to say, I am really enjoying my classes so far, and I am excited for what this new semester will bring (besides the homework, that is).

On the first day of classes, I learned that I would have the opportunity to go on a few field trips this semester.

With my biology class, I will be going to the zoo to observe different kinds of animal behavior.

My class on the Silk Road will be taking me to New York City to see an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We already visited a Mongolian yurt. (A yurt is a mobile hut for the nomadic people of the steppe region in central Asia). The class had a very rustic experience in this yurt on Thursday, eating food prepared by our professor. To augment the nomadic experience, it rained, providing for a truly genuine excursion.

Students have been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather by heading down the hill to town.

From scrambling to purchase all their necessary books at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Bookstore, to trying out the local eateries like Slices and Nichols and Beal, Hamilton has become very much the center of the social scene at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.

At any given time, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø students could be seen grabbing some coffee at The Barge Canal with friends, shopping at Steph Boutique, or just enjoying the walk around the picturesque downtown.

When the leaves begin to change color, you know that fall athletics are under way. The Raiders really have been representing on the field with victories for ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø athletic teams. The season opener for the football team is September 3rd, and students are getting ready to show their school spirit.

Good luck to all the fall athletes!

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. Until next time!)

P.S.: Below is my photo of the famous ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø swans.
